Hi honeys!
***note: this will be my final newsletter post for SOS for 2024! I will be traveling for the holidays and just don’t want to put that pressure on myself lol. BUT I will be posting Black art inspo in my notes and start back up in the new year <3 ***
I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this but I am not only an art lover (+ art collector, aspiring art curator, archivist and budding Black art historian) but I am also a photographer! My journey began rather organically: my father placed his camera in my hands, saw I had an incredible eye, and left it in my hands. I took my first photography class in highschool in 2016 and I completely fell in love. The first Black woman photographer I ever learned about was Carrie Mae Weems (post coming soon!) and her work served as an affirmation that this is a space where I can exist. Where I SHOULD exist. Over the years I found my cameras collecting dust, but as of late I have found that spark again. And as the year is quickly coming to a close I figured no need to wait to grow that spark into a burning fire, the time to do it is now <3 And because of that I have decided to feature photographers for this week’s edition of the Sunday Muses!

Officially starting Sips on Sundays this year has been an incredible journey. I am so thankful for the love and support from my loved ones for encouraging me and holding me accountable. My desire to begin this platform simply began from a desire to learn and to share, and that sentiment has remained consistent throughout. This platform is simply a Black woman who loves Black art, wants to learn more about Black, wants to celebrate Black women and gender expansive individuals in Black art, and wants to share all of this! I could go on and on but thank you to everyone who has subscribed and shown love. I am so incredibly grateful for each sweet message and excited to bring more! Here are this week’s Sunday Muses <3
